Depuis 24h...

Arrived safely in Beirut, after a rather long lay-over in Frankfurt. My landing and installation went smoothly: The "Jesuit-Taxi"(authentique!), reserved by the student hall I was going to spend the night in, was on time. I didn't stay long in the "Foyer de La Sagesse" since I went the next morning straigh to my new Lebanese home: my dad's friend's appartment situated in Achrafieh.

Since then, I've been wandering around Beyrouth, trying to find my way to the Economic and Social Fund for Development (ESFD) without getting too lost, which, considering my inexistent orientation skills, is quite an acheivement! Beyrouth has the particularity of having very little road signs...

So far, I've been very surprised at the amount of newly constructed buildings around the city: everywhere, new and luxurious buildings are emerging, mostly as bank offices or luxury stores. Even the mosques and churches get their share of renewal, which gives this overall bizarre impression of fake, movie-made, decor.

Had as well my first day at the office today: got to read all the powerpoint presentation slides about the ESFD, their different projects, their objectives, ect... Everyone was very welcoming, and, although I don't get much of what is going on (as they all speak in arabic), I can feel that there is a great friendly atmosphere between them.

Voici donc pour les premieres 24h au Liban- desolee aux lecteurs francophones, mais c'est plus facile d'ecrire des messages en anglais!

a bientot pour de plus amples nouvelles!

  1. One of my favorite moments when discovering foreign countries: the first views of the city you drive through in a cab on your way to an adress you can barely pronounciate... take care sis and post some more!
